Spirituality Sunday 17th November - 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

This year we will again be taking part in #RedWednesday on Wednesday 27th November 2019. This is organised by an international charity called Aid to the Church in Need https://acnuk.org/? and they help millions of people every year. They stand up for people who are forgotten, and they make a stand for the things that everyone should have: justice, peace and freedom to be whatever religion you want to be without risking persecution. On #RedWednesday we invite the children to show support by wearing one item of red clothing (eg socks /tights /ribbon/ scarf), to pray the Angelus at 12 o’clock in school and to have a minute’s silence afterwards. This is to show our solidarity with those who are suffering and to make a stand for faith and freedom. We know that thousands of other people will be doing this at the same time as us, so we will be united in our prayers. There will be the opportunity to make red stickers for those who do not have an item of red to wear.
Look out for buildings, which are lit up red for #RedWednesday: last year these included the Houses of Parliament in London, the Colosseum in Rome and the Vatican.

On Friday 1st November, the Solemnity of All Saints, Reception to Y6 joined together to participate in Mass celebrated by Father Luke. We are reminded that we are all called to be saints, leading others to Christ.
Thank you for your donations to the Mary's Meal Backpack Appeal. Please remember to label your bags with 'Mary's Meals' to avoid them getting muddled up with other appeals. We will be collecting the following items until 15th November: used or new notepads, pencils, pens, crayons, sharpeners, erasers, rulers, pencil cases, small towels, small balls (e.g. tennis balls), flip flops or sandals, spoons and new soap, toothbrushes & toothpaste. We will be collecting used backpacks (not drawstring bags) from 18th - 22nd November.

Advent means 'coming'. We think of the coming of Jesus when he was born but we also thing of his promise that he would come again at the end of time. It is a time of waiting and preparing. It is only in the last week of Advent that we focus upon the events to be celebrated at Christmas.

This feast marks the first stage of the existence of Mary, the mother of Jesus. She was 'full of grace' from the very beginning and co-operated with God throughout her life.

On Sunday 13th October, in Rome, Blessed John Henry Newman will be declared a Saint, the first English non-martyr to be canonised since St. John of Bridlington in 1401. On the days leading up to this momentous day, the junior pupils and staff have been reflecting each day on an excerpt of Newman's writings and praying together a mini-novena. Please do join your prayers to ours, asking Blessed John Henry Newman to intercede for us.

On Monday afternoon's assembly Mrs Norbury was delighted to introduce the 25 members of
the new Y6 Chaplaincy Team to the Junior School. They have already been busy helping
with displays, being envoys - informing the classes of prayer initiatives etc., helping to lead
prayers and all with a smile, following the example of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, whose
feast day was on Tuesday, in doing little acts of kindness with great love.
Pope Francis has declared October 2019 to be an Extraordinary Month of Mission and tells
us that "Prayer is the first 'missionary work' - the first! The first which every Christian can and should carry out. It is also the most effective although it cannot be 'measured'". We are 'Baptised and Sent'. During October, we will be praying the Rosary every Thursday lunchtime, using Missio Rosaries and with the specific intention for all of us who proclaim the Good News of the Gospel.
