I have over 20 years' experience in education, having worked as a teacher in SEN setting throughout my career and also as a governor in an SEN school. I have experience in health and safety, safeguarding and inclusive practise in mainstream settings and my particular specialisms in sensory impairment and physical education.
All of my children attended St Mary's and I had served on the PTA for a number of years before becoming a Parent Governor. I was appointed as a Foundation Governor 12 years ago, initially Chair of Governors of the Junior School and elected as Chair of Governors of the Federation on its inception. I work with Public Sector bodies to find transport solutions, and a trained facilitator. I am a National Leader in Governance and work though the Diocese to help other Chairs and Governing Bodies to help ensure the furtherance of Catholic Education
I have been a governor at the school for the past 11 years, firstly as a Junior school parent governor and currently as Vice Chair of the governing body and have been for the past 3 years. I am a Managing Director of an electrical contracting company and use my experience in management to support the governing body and the school SLT.
I am currently enjoying my second year as a Foundation Governor. The year previous to this I served as a Parent Governor. My son is now in Year 2 following the same path as me being a pupil St Mary's myself 30 years ago. I have run a Carpentry and Building company for over 10 years and have a skill set suited for being the Health and Safety Governor on the resources committee. Being a keen sportsman myself, I am passionate about sport in schools. I value the importance of children being active and taking their learning outdoors. My main motivation for being a Governor has always been to make sure the children of St Mary's are happy and safe at school as well as being inspired to learn
To an extent I am a local lad, having been born in Banstead, and with my mother, among other things, a teacher at St Mary's Infants. I have been parish priest of Carshalton since 2008, and combine this with visiting work at the local prisons of High Down and Downview. I try and give time to meeting and greeting in the playgrounds of both Infants' and Junior schools.
I am a retired company director who has worked in the building services support industry in London and Australia. I have lived in Carshalton for 45 years and all four boys went to St Mary's school and then on to John Fisher school, Purley. I am active in Holy Cross parish as a member of the finance committee and I am the gift aid organiser. This year I am President of the Sutton mid surrey Catenian association. My key attributes relevant to being a governor of St Mary's include building, financial and change management skills.
I have been on the governing body for over 20 years and helped set up the Finance Committee with Pat Dudley who was chair at the time. I took over as Chair of the Finance Committee 3 years ago which is now The Resources Committee. In my business life I have run my own outside catering company for over 25 years and prior to that I worked in retail management for Marks and Spencer.

I am a teacher and musician, with over ten years' experience of working in a culturally diverse school in Central London. I have been active in education trades unions for over 15 years. Together with a recently completed MA in Music Education from UCL, I have a broad understanding of education policy and practice. I passionately support the drive for and benefits of, creative, equalities driven, child-centred education, which utilises every available resource, both inside and outside the classroom.
